Seeds of Kindness: A Healing Touch

Looks like I’m getting sent back to magic kindergarten…

Since this update is EXTREMELY tardy!

If  you didn’t already gather, we changed some things.  It’s looking a little nicer around here.  Updates are ongoing, so some things may be unfinished as of right now.  We are in the process of doing quite a bit of work around here, and by the time it’s completed, it’ll be…nice.

The banner is just me fooling around with someone else’s masterpiece in Paint, expect it to change soon.  Many apologies to CrappyUnicorn for using your image as a background until we get our own.  Hopefully linking people to your DeviantArt profile (twice) will make up for it?

Anyway, expect some more changes here soonish.  Till then:  Stay sane, spike your mane!

Updated Forum

Just finished doing some work on the forum.  I’ve separated it into three distinct categories:  Donations, Volunteerism and BfG Off-Topic.

If there’s any comments or suggestions regarding this, I’d love to hear them.

(I’ll do some work on the main page later on, but I have to take a nap before work…)

Redheart’s Roundup

Bronies for Good is proud to announce our first donation drive:  Redheart’s Roundup!

For the month of September (not October,) we urge you to get out there and find a local blood bank so you can donate some of that precious red stuff.  You might even save a life!  I could go on and on about this, but Martinwil was kind enough to put the official announcement and further details into a nifty Google Document.  You can find it by clicking the image!

UK PonyCon and Riding for the Disabled Association or: Yo Dawg, I heard you like copypaste…

While reading through the most recent Nightly Roundup on EqD, it seems there is an event known as UK PonyCon coming up.  If you didn’t already read it for yourself here (Nightly Roundup #74) have some copypaste of some copypaste!

Established in 2004, we are a charity fundraising event that aims to raise money and awareness each year for our chosen charity. This year, we are again supporting the Riding for the Disabled Association.

I urge you to click the words above and make a donation.  Also, if you are in the area of this convention, you should totally go.  I know I would if I didn’t live so far away.  For those of you who can make it, this entire sentence is a link to the UK PonyCon site.

Changes to the Site or: How I Learned CSS and Broke Some Things

I took it upon myself to do some playing around with the stylesheet for this page.  I moved some links to the top and changed some font sizes.  I may have also broke the search function, if that even appears for anyone.  I won’t break anything else, as I learned from my mistake and now use a notepad backup.  As you may have noticed, I also added some nifty buttons for Facebook and Twitter.  I plan on doing something with that pesky RSS button, but that will wait for another day.  Expect some changes to the forum in the next couple days as well.

Oh yeah, I added a couple links to the side for some things that I have mentioned before, so check them out if you haven’t already.

A couple things…

A good friend of mine and I did some work on the forum.  We installed a better looking theme and he created a couple temporary banners.  I can’t decide which one is better, so I’ll leave it up to you!  (side note:  These images are scaled down 60%)

This one?

or this one?

I’m using the first one for right now, but if you’d rather have the other just let me know.  Again, this is temporary, I was just getting tired of the forum looking so bland.

In other news, I’m considering adding a widget for THIS LINK which will allow anyone to donate to a charity that changes monthly.  Feel free to check it out.

JustGive.org

During the meeting we had yesterday, I found a site called JustGive.org.  According to the site, there is a “database of nearly 1.8 million charities.”  You can search by charity name, keyword, city, state, zip code and Tax ID / EIN.  Once you have found one that you are interested in you can click to find out more information such as mission, programs, what they do and even financial data.

I thought this would be great for people who are looking for local charities.  I searched my zip and found 188 different results, which surprised me.

I encourage everyone to check this out, you may just find something you would really like to donate some money to.

Here is a link that takes you directly to the “Give Now” section of the website.

Oh! Hello there.

Woah.  When I heard from Martinwil that an e-mail was sent to Sethisto about BfG, I didn’t expect to see much more traffic than usual.  Boy, was I wrong. I am excited to see so many people who are eager to join up with us!  Thank you to Equestria Daily (and Phoe) for posting the article.

It looks like the we are trying to organize a food drive for the next BroNYcon, I’m sure the details will be fleshed out very soon.  We also have a timesheet for community service hours and type (also thanks to Martinwil) which can be found HERE.

There has been some interest from the people over at The Fourth Floor.  They are selling some sweet pony themed Monopoly tokens and are willing to donate $1 from each sale to BfG.

One last bit:  There is a discussion on the BfG Facebook page on what our logo should be.  I have my heart set on one, but I want to leave it up to everyone else so we can all be happy about the decision.  I’ve also created a similar thread on the forum, but with the look of the entire site in mind.

Again, thank you to everyone!  Together we can make this world a better place!

Brony Blood Drive!

The following is taken from a forum post created by Martinwil (aka RommelsBadAss).  For more information, visit the forum by clicking on the link in the blogroll.

Bronies for Good is a newly-formed grass roots organization that embodies Brony values of friendship, love and harmony by organising various public service projects. As a relatively new organization, we’re happy to announce our first act of service for the broader community, a blood drive! To take part, just gather up some bronies and head down to your respective blood bank, hospital, or red cross equivalent organization and follow this handy guide from the Red Cross for donating blood:

http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood/donation-process#t1

Keep in in mind that you may also be required to make an appointment for giving blood, but this varies from organization to organization.

In addition, if there is enough people willing to organize a localized full fledged blood drive under BfG’s name, check out this link:

Hello Bronies!

Welcome to Bronies for Good!  This page is temporary for now, but I felt that I should have something nice to look at for the time being.  I’ve included a link to the forum (look to the right under “blogroll”) and I have opened registration to everyone.  Come on over there (it doesn’t look as nifty as this page, but that will change) and we can discuss further about how we are going to do things.  Thanks to everyone who wants to make the world a better place, you guys are great!
